This topic could lead to a lot of great ideas and thoughts. And when you study scriptures, you can find loads of references about ‘walking with God’.
However, for these ‘Minutes’ messages… I wholeheartedly plan to keep them on the ‘shorter’ minutes side, so with this one I want to simply talk about literally taking a walk with God. 💕
In the very beginning of scripture, we can read in Genesis 3:8, “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”
For this Minutes message let’s not dive into the fact that they were hiding and for what reason. That will make this a much different and deeper message and that will be for another time. But let’s focus on the fact that they heard ‘God walking in the garden’.
I find this fascinating! I understand that God created human, man specifically, to have a relationship with him, a family of sorts that he could love, and they love Him back.
Again, another great message regarding why ‘woman’ was created... but ultimately it still goes back to God longed for a family that He could enjoy and commune with.
(Over the last decade I have discovered a great love and understanding for why women were created … again, another message. Promise- it’s a good one too! 😊)
I love this part of the verse in Genesis for the fact that I believe, before Adam and Eve sinned, that God literally would take walks with them! Talking to them about the day maybe sharing stories about the animals playing with one another. Afteall, they only ate greens at the time. There was no death for them or their animal family either.
Genesis 1:29–30 shows us this:
29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
I can’t imagine it is anything less… and who are we to say God could not walk with them in whatever fashion or form He chose. God is God and can do anything He chooses!
Whether it was a ‘human’ form as we know it or a wind with distinguishable sounds either way it’s very exciting to me!
We can read in the book of John 1: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.
If we are like minded, you too will understand that God had a reason for everything He created ... everything we see, do, feel, learn, experience….
So, why after 1000s of years post A&Eve would families, couples, communities and groups enjoy walking together? Because He knew we would enjoy walking with each other for the vast emotional, mental and physical benefits that are derived from this type of exercise.
For many years I have used my ‘cardio’ sessions to connect and hear from the Lord.
Typically, I don’t listen to anything (unless it’s a bible message I want to hear) and I just head out for the session of the day and talk to God.
I know without a doubt, He talks back to me- with ideas, plans and decisions. I return from these sessions much refreshed and eager to move forward with the ideas He downloaded on ‘our’ walk or jog or even sprint session.
Try it for yourself, ask Him to join you and see what He says to you! Listen for that direct voice that brings you peace… and if you need time to hear more, write down what you hear.. pray on it.. and continue to ask Him on your walks and listen for God to reveal more as you are ready for His plans!
(In loving memory of Camy, my sweet Doxie… I miss her terribly.. 💞 For almost 17 years we experienced miles and miles together. Not a walk went by I did not thank God for her sweet presence in my day.)
Here’s to great walks & talks! Enjoy!
Live Radiantly… today,
Monica
