Over the years my wonderful Mom has provided me with examples of how to pray through God’s Word for myself and for others. As I read Psalm 1 today, I felt to give you an example of how you too can take the Word and APPLY it to yourself, your family and friends through prayer.
Remember this is just an example of how to pray THROUGH Psalm 1, maybe God directs you with a slightly different method. But this is how it came to me today. May it be a blessing for you too. Feel free to share this with anyone that could use the encouragement- privately or socially.
Thank you, Jesus that I am blessed because I do not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; but that my delight is in your law which IS Your instruction for life!
Please help me to continue to meditate on Your law/instruction day and night.
NOTE: Remember the Word says we are to MEDITATE (I know a lot of ‘new age’ and ‘wellness’ gurus are repeating this word, but it’s not the same.. they are telling us to meditate to clear our mind/heart and be open to the Universe.. but God says to meditate ON HIS WORD- not to clear our mind and open it to whatever the universe is bringing us.. but fill it with HIS WORD - the Hebrew word for meditate is haagah and means ‘to mutter in a low voice, repeating what is heard or read’.
Review Joshua 1:8 - if we take to heart what this tells us to do, how can we NOT succeed in all God has for us?
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Back to the prayer…
Because of You, Father, I am like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding fruit in its season with leaves that do not wither. In all that I do, I will prosper because of Your promises and goodness.
Thank you for keeping me from wickedness and temptations that are not prosperous but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Thank you, Father, that I will stand in judgement before you as one of Yours and be judged by your faithfulness and justice!
Thank you, Father, because of You I will be in the congregation of the righteous!
Since You, Father, know the way of righteous, search me and know my heart; test me and any anxious thoughts. Point out anything you find in me that is offensive to You and lead me along the path of everlasting life so that I don’t perish like the wicked.
In your name, Jesus, AMEN
NOTE: The last bit of prayer came from this scripture. Psalm 139:23-24
And here is the actual Psalm from scripture for you to compare the prayer above.
Psalm 1 ESV
The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked
1 Blessed is the man[a]
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
