As I’ve been reading through the NKJV bible this year so many new things are POPPING for me! Same as watching a movie over and over... new details emerge that help to make the WHOLE movie make more sense.
Let me encourage you to do this for yourself… I know it’s NOT me that is finding these things so much as the fact that when I dedicate the time, and sometimes it’s literally a few minutes of reading, the Holy Spirit reveals new ideas and understandings, and scripture reveals scripture!
Before moving on, let’s recall these incredible passages that reveal God and who He IS!
Is. 46
9 Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’
Can we agree that IF JESUS is quoting the O.T. (the beginning) then it should be important and imperative for US to read still today?
Today as I was reading in John 12-13... mind you this is simply a quick post of comparison of the Old & New T that verifies and confirms scripture.
18 “I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats [c]bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’
Let’s step back now into the O.T…
As Jesus is speaking this to the disciples, He is CONFIRMING who He IS from the beginning!
Recalling in Genesis, as God spoke it became the very first prophecy about the future! He spoke about Jesus in the BEGINNING… and then in John, above, Jesus is quoting it, about HIMSELF!
But God also prophesied about what would come in the world… and we are watching it unfold at great speed today. But don’t fear because we know the ending with Jesus, King of King and Lord of Lords .. and He has already conquered ALL! Be patient, strong and courageous, WAIT on the Lord!
Ok, back to the comparison.
Genesis 3
15 And I will put enmity -Between you and the woman, (the woman here is Israel-which is GOD’s country.. and His people.. which stands till today.. why do we see SO MUCH controversy about Israel?)
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Next, in the OT, we find King David quoting the same scripture from Genesis and prophesying about Jesus to come and to be killed and resurrected… which was almost 350 years LATER!
Ps. 41
9 Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has [f]lifted up his heel against me.
Talk about hearing from GOD!
I wonder how much of the words David said, such as this, did he REALLY understand what he was writing. Did he understand that this was about the future Messiah?
Did David know his words would make HISTORY like they have?
I know he suffered greatly, and his heart also remained BENT TOWARDS the LORD… even when he sinned… he came back to repentance and begged that God would not remove His Spirit from him!
Ps. 51 (The whole chapter is actually about REPENTANCE- good one to read again and again!
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me
So, back to the comparison of the O & N T today.. I find it fascinating to experience these and to learn how God’s Word is the same from the beginning to the end. I know I could go deeper on this, but this is supposed to be ‘Minutes with Monica’ not hours! 😁😁
Let’s make sure to write things down that we believe come from the Lord. We never know when the journalling we do or the prayers we say and take note of will make an impact on future individuals… even if it’s ONE PERSON!
Lastly, I found this article about GENESIS 3 prophecy… great short read… so here it is!
Genesis 3:15—The First Prophecy in the Bible
Dave Miller, Ph.D. From Issue: Discovery 2/1/2003
Soon after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, and introduced sin into the world, they were expelled from the Garden of Eden as punishment. But something else had to be done about their sin. God still loved them in spite of their sin and would not let that be the end of the matter. Being perfect, holy, and unwilling to allow sin to go unforgiven (Habakkuk 1:13), God had already devised a wonderful plan to make it possible for Adam, Eve, and all people since, to be forgiven of sin.
The first hint of this great plan of salvation was given in the garden just before Adam and Eve were expelled. God rebuked Satan, saying: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:15). What did God mean by this statement?
He was saying that trouble would always exist between Satan (and those who follow him), and those who follow God (read Matthew 23:33, John 8:44, 1 John 3:10, and Psalm 22:30). From the Garden until now, Satan has tried to get people to disobey God. The righteous people and the un-righteous have always been at odds with each other. But God said how He would handle this trouble: “He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” He meant that even though Satan would do everything possible to get people to sin, and to stop God from saving people from their sin, God would still make a way for people to be forgiven. He would send Jesus to live a sinless life, and then to die for everybody’s sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He suffered greatly (“heel bruised” by Satan). But His death allowed God to forgive sin (Satan’s “head crushed”)! Now people can escape the power of Satan (Acts 26:18; Romans 16:20)! The death of Jesus on the cross destroyed Satan’s efforts to prevent people from being forgiven (Hebrews 2:14; 1 John 3:8). We still have to choose to follow God and try constantly to keep from sinning. But God loves us so much that He gave us His wonderful Son! Satan has been defeated!
Prayer for us….
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for Your tender mercies that are new every morning, may we not forget and take advantage of these, but may we be glad and rejoice, praising Your Holy name as we bring our worship to You, and You alone!
Thank you for Your Word, Father, that does not change, may we HOLD FAST to It and bury It in our hearts.
In Your mighty name, Jesus, AMEN!
Live Radiantly … today!
